this has been a busy month.
on the 6th i was supposed to go to this optometrist for some te4sts that help determine if one has dyslexia. i asked for good friday, and as far as i can tell, good friday never lands on a thursday. well, i was offered 1:45 and put on the books for thursday, april 5th. i didnt know they arent open on friday afternoons. so i took the 1:45 time thinking it was for the day i asked for. friday i received a call asking why i didnt show up for my thursday appointment. i was quite disappointed, and a little miffed. i still have not resceduled.
work has been crazy busy lately. where do all these infections come from?
more wellness exams on the 13th. my grandmothers birthday. she would have been about 110.
getting my taxes done has been a real hassle. im never using turbo tax again. it was so easy the first and second times. but i have an HSA account, and this seemed to cause problems. i also opted for the $49.95 deduction maximizer program, only to find that there is an additional charge of $34.95 for the state tax. maybe this was the case before, and i just dont remember because i was getting a return. this time i was looking at either $900 or $480 federal tax due … something about the HSA account. the state tax had two results as well. $80 return, or $46 owed. what a mess. and then to be charged extra for the state tax preparation guidance. im just rather put out by the whole thing.
maybe now i can get back to a more relaxed routine. i need a break. i miss visiting my usual blogs. i will be back! sigh ….

sorry not to have been around so much ,I never seem to have the time to get around more than a couple of spaces each day;-(
I am so relieved I do not have to do a tax return & jeff ‘s is done at source as he only has 1 job .I used to do his bookwork when he was self employed & just have it checked by an acounted at year’s end …pleased that is over with as he is now a manager on a building site instead of a joiner as he was before .
How annoying to miss the appointment , and when you had arranged it for a Friday ! I hope you do not have to wait too long for another .

Hello SL,
Taxes – the worst thing in the world to have to do. I am so glad that I have no taxes to do. The tax laws are so confusing that it is a wonder anyone can get them done – even accountants. Texas has no state income tax, fortunately. Businesses and the government will take money anyway they can get away with it. I hope you got it all straightened out in YOUR favor with money coming back on both counts.
I hope your eye exam, when you have it, will be a positive thing and nothing wrong.
Wellness exams will drive a business insane and insurance companies hate to pay for them. Keeping a person healthy cuts down on the prpofits of insurance companies. They lose an excuse to increase premiums and cutback on coverage.
We must never become immune to the horror of senseless killings. If we do, then killings will increase.
Have a great week.
Peace, Love, & Blessings.

Morning. Another fine start to the day here. And very quiet at the moment. Can hear the ‘sails’ toiling away in the background. Yes, windmill it was. Well done.
Have a good Thursday :)

Hello SL,
Sorry you have to pay in to Federal. There are a lot of deductionns available that even the tax programs don’t bring up. Mileage for doctor appointments (round trip), the same thing for picking up prescriptions from the pharmacy, the cost of the medicine, health insurance premiums, for those who own a home there is the property tax and interest on the loan.
Texas & taxes so close in spelling but yet so far apart in other things. My car tag is $70 per year for a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Being a disabled veteran my pickup tag is $3 a year and I pay no fee for a driver’s license. With the disability rating that I have, I get $12,000 knocked off the valuation of my house before taxes. There is no tax on food or medicines including over-the-counter medications. Gasoline is a little higher but that is because due to Federal law the well-head tax cannot be passed along to another state consumer.
I haven’t heard much about AFLAC. I got retired before it came into existence. It does sound nice but the commercials are so stupid – just as bad as the commercials for GEICO car insurance. I still like the old Taco Bell commercials with the chihuahua. That was a cute dog.
Have a great week and weekend.
Peace, Love, & Blessings.

More balmy days here. Hope it lasts through the weekend.
A point yesterday, and a ‘wordy’ one for the weekend. Running out of new ones. Probably just as well lol
Have a good Friday :)

I do not wish to discuss, or even think about, taxes at this point. I did my best frenzied search for all records, found every deduction I could, carefully listed miles driven and costs incurred (medical and business,) business expenses and income (lost money on it this year,) mortgage and home loan interest, and on and on. Fool that I am, I expected a return. I owed more than I have ever had to pay in any two combined years in the past. I was not amused. I took the return to the PO myself to make certain it had the right amount of postage was dated correctly but the clerk had some difficulty in getting me to let go of the envelopes. Oh, well. At least the insurance company sent me a check for the ruined carpet damage portion of the great (upstairs) toilet flood of ’07. That was enough to pay for Bittle the Cat’s surgery and about 80% of the insurance deductible. That was a good thing, but only about 15% of what the Fed had surgically extracted. Aarrrgghhh!!
Peace, Doc

Alien Hunter is right about taxes in Texas. Hubby always errs on the side of caution on his W-2’s, so we almost always get something back. We also have a lot of $$ taken out pre-tax and that helps.
If I were you, I would let TurboTax know that you’re unhappy. I’ve found that it pays to let a business know a consumer’s situation.
‘Bout that Thursday/Friday confusion? Well, see, at age 50……just kiddin’!

I HATE taxes (and steel pins in my jaw!) At least the pins just hurt for a little while. There is always about a week starting before April 15 that I am not a nice person to be around. Even the cats aren’t sure about me. When I originally got the 1099s from the State, they had taken out Federal tax and I, silly me, believed I might get a refund. However! The State had paid Annie’s widower’s pension as a lump sum payout rather than treating it as a monthly pension. That effectively doubled my income for one year, put me in a higher tax bracket when it was the first year I had only myself as a deduction, and taxed the payout as regular income (but prohibited me from contributing any of it to an IRA because it was not "wages.") Above everything that had already been witheld, I still owed a little under 4.5K. I did manage to suppress my scream in the accountant’s office, but let it out when I reached the car and closed the door. Now I have to figure out how to "un-do" two "make-up" IRAs that I bought for 2006 and 2007. Maybe I’ll just withdraw it and…………..do something.
Peace, Doc

Catching up on my reading…am finally back from my holidays in Europe, that is what I was doing there, lol…It was an adventure in modes of travel, I tell ya!!! Planes, trains (superfast and really slow ones, under the ground ones and above the ground ones), boats, ferries, gondolas…and feet, lots and lots of walking around with our backpacks, lol should have done this in our 20’s but who has the money in your 20’s…
I had to have our taxes done before we left, very stressful time but did get it all finished…Hope your ‘easter’ was good however you celebrate it…I hear ya on that, don’t celebrate it at all as far as the ‘traditional’ way and perfer to BE with the Lord each day rather than on so called holy days that someone tells me I need to celebrate…Blessings, Graciously

Hello Moke… sounds like you’re a little frazzled. I am too, so it’s ok. I’ve missed stopping by, so I’m infracting on my work day just a wee bit to stop by and talk to you. I’ve been away a while.
OK… here’s how you get your center back. Go to my blog and go to the reading list. The bottom listing is "There is a River". It’s the biography of Eadgar Cayce. The book has had a profound effect on me. I have found my spiritual center again. I do believe this book will help you too. I’m so in love with it I’ll be giving it as christmas gifts. I try to give gifts that will genuinely make a difference in a persons life, and this one will for sure.
Doctors continually tick me off by doing what they want when they want, which is why it takes hell, fire & damnation to get me there. I had a girlfriend who went to a Colon Doctor who made her cry. She was going to get the colonoscopy from him anyway! I really had to shout at here. Why would you pay for someone’s services who’s going to make you cry?!?!?! No, I insisted that she changes doctors. She relented and afterwards, thanked me. Dear Lord, there is no reason to PAY for someone to treat you bad!
So, I do believe that this was God’s way of saying that this was not the right doctor for you. I’m wondering. Would being tested for dyslexia mean anything different for you? Maybe you’re better off not being diagnosed. Once there is a diagnoses you can’t go back. For example, my rheumatiod arthritis that will haunt me forever, regardless of the fact that I"m not effected at this time. It’s raised the rates on my life insurance and has put limitations on things that I apply for. Maybe it’s better just to keep this dyslexia to yourself. You know what’s going on with out someone telling you. Once it’s in writing, good diagnosis or not, it’s there with your name on it.
My two bits. Now… go have a great day! I adore you, you know, you’re a lovely person!
