ACLU Files A Lawsuit Over A Ten Commandment Monument In Stigler

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against Haskell County, demanding that a Ten Commandments monument be removed from the courthouse grounds in Stigler.

Haskell County commissioners had no immediate comment on the lawsuit.

It alleges the display violates constitutional protections against government endorsement of religion and entanglement of government with religion.

The ACLU brought the complaint on behalf of Jim Green, a retired veteran and a longtime resident of Haskell County. He objects to the monument because he believes the display violates the U-S Constitution and trivializes religion.

The 8-foot, $2,500 monument was funded by efforts of Stigler-area residents and church members. It was erected last November after approval from the Haskell County Commission.

Bill of Rights

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

it seems like every time i read/hear about a lawsuit against the display of some Christian symbol or something, it alway alleges some violation of the first amemdnent. its a funny thing, because as of yet, not one of the cases that i have seen make the news has been about a law that congress has made respecting the establishment of a religion or prohibiting the free exercise of one.

i dont think very many americans really know why we have the first amemnent. it was written for the exact opposite reason that most people hear expressed in the media. what a shocker….

the term "separation of church and state" is not even in the bill of rights amendment. it was in a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist convention to calm their fears concerning a rumor that was going around about the establishment of a national religion of another denomination than baptist.

a little examination of the history of intentions will provide a lot of thought provoking.

it makes me sad when i read about stuff like when the members of that church group went to the funerals of those soldiers, claiming God had punished them for defending a country that allows homosexuality.

God isnt punishing anybody. not for that, or any other of the multitude of sins we commit every day. not according to the Bible.

the Bible says anything not of faith is sin, in romans 14:23.

people of a religious mind always seem to think that God rewards us for doing right and punishes us for doing wrong. they often mistake the results of sin being in the world as punishment.

but let me tell you what the Bible says about that. romans 5:12 says by one man sin entered into the world, and death came with it, and that death reigned over man (vs 14). romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death.

God isnt the one paying the wages. God came with a free gift to offer any one who wants it. the gift sets is free.

in john 16:11 Jesus says, when He (the Holy Spirit) is come, He will reprove the world of sin, of righteousness, and "of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged". judgement has already been passed on sin and on the prince of this world.

God isnt going to judge any one for sinning. in the end, sin will get its judgement dealt out, and any one that hasnt let go and received the free gift of redemption will go with it. it will be their own choice.

im sorry if those ‘church’ members made you think God is like that. He’s not. He just wants you to be free and have what He has. its already paid for. God doesnt hate anyone. He hates sin, because of what it does. if He hated sinners, we’d all be in serious trouble, and He never would have paid for the gift, let alone offer it to us.

i hope you choose the gift. but no one is going to make you. and i wont judge you over your choices. i’ll just hope you see in me the benefits of receiving His gift, and membership into His family.

membership does have its privalidges!

these people are supposed to be Christians. the monk said he was trying to take devils out of the woman. Jesus never did it that way. He cast them out with a word.  how could He do that? why would He do it that way? because He was walking on the earth as a man in covenant with God. He said "if you have seen me, you have seen the Father." He also said "these things shall ye do, and greater, for I go to my Father."

as a Christian, i have seen similar things done. its almost as if people cant quite take God at His Word, but have to add their own extravegant actions to see results. but Jesus said it makes the Word of God of no effect when we do things taught by the traditions of men, rather than simply believing His Word and acting on it.

the dictionary defines ‘exorcicism’ as "the use of prayers or religious ritual" "a religious ceremony" "special ritual or spoken formula" for the driving out of demons from some one or some place. Jesus said "when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think they shall be heard for their much speaking." (matt. 6:7)

its obvious that this monk and these nuns are either ignorant of the Word of God, or they dont believe it.
