well saturday the guy thats taking down the tree came back to finish the job, theoretically. i say that because he first came out in the early spring to bid on the job, so i showed him the tree, and he was pretty comfident he could do it. i even asked him about some limbs on other trees that were getting to far ove my back yard neaighbor’s yard, and he said more than likely he could take care of those too.
then i didnt hear from him again. until mid summer. after the tree was full of leaves. it’s a big elm tree, and it was bare in the early spring. now it was full of leaves and had those long fuzzy seed things that get all over the yard and the dogs and everything else, and was considerable heavier. he didnt call first. he just showed up, on his bike, with his girlfriend. my beau was like, "who the heck is this guy coming to the door". honestly, i didnt recognize him at first.
well, he wasn’t going to do the tree after all. something about the landlord had told him to wait, and there was some tax thing, and anyway the job was on hold, and now the tree is too heavy with leaves and he didnt have his helper now. couldve just called to say all that, instead of showing up out of the blue and spending half an hour in the back yard in the heat discussing all this. since we didnt hire him anyway. sigh.
then one day we came home from somewhere, and there he was in the back yard, with a helper, making a big mess with branches and cigarette butts every where. if i had known he was coming, i would have taken the lock off the back gate. good thing we keep the dogs in when we’re gone. plu it was only one of the hottest days of the year. well they worked until a thunderstorm rolled in, and then scooted off. but they never came back to clean up all the large branches that were left all over the yard. not to mention said cigarette butts.
after many days, we finally added the branches to the pile that had accumulated in the back. and once again i didnt hear from him for a while.
well so saturday he came and took the last big branch off the tree. the whole tree isnt coming down after all. really i’m glad, because i do like the tree, in spite of the fuzzy seed things. but its been so cut back now, and the leviathon wisteria that used to wind all the way to the top of it is no longer there, and it doesnt have any more big branches hanging over the house, so i think it’ll be ok. of course there’s still the brush pile, but thats going to be hauled of this week….. i hope.
